Designing and creating colourful things from recycled materials since 2012!
My creative background is woven textile design and I have always been fascinated by textiles, embellishment, colour and pattern. I’m a keen thrifter and lover of vintage, kitsch, folk and scandi, with a magpie habit for collecting second hand treasures such as fabrics, yarn & haberdashery. I have a treasured vintage Jones sewing machine which belonged to my mum and it is the main tool I use to create with, along with a sharp pair of scissors and my hands!
I feel very strongly about over consumerism and it’s unsustainable and negative effect on our planet. I think that we should be recycling more materials and incorporating them into new things. So when I began Little Swift I decided to create my jewellery and accessories solely from waste materials, using scrap leather offcuts from other makers & industry waste, upcycling unloved garments and vintage fabrics, buttons & yarn which I find in charity shops. I use eco friendly non toxic glue and slow methods of making by hand, creating limited editions or one off designs.
I have a colourful and playful aesthetic, combining bright colours with hints of metallic and the fabrics I use are soft and tactile. By using reclaimed materials and reinventing them into new designs I feel they can once again be loved and enjoyed. I want everything I make to have an heirloom quality, longevity and above all to make people smile.
I hope you find something you like, and if you’re looking for a special custom make please don’t hesitate to drop me a message at [email protected]
Best wishes
